  • Ephedra

    Supplement Name: Ephedra

    Otherwise Known as: Ma Huang

    Benefits of taking Ephedra
Ephedra's original and principal use is for asthma, however in the more recent years people have been using it for weight loss assistance as well as for Sexual Dysfunction in women. These days it is becoming more and more rare to find ephdra in over the counter cough medicines as you probably would 10 years ago. Ephedra causes a similar affect as adrenaline and can make you test positive for methamphetamine(speed), it also can make your heart rate as well as a slew of other side effects as noted below. When combined with caffeine, ephedra has been proven to drastically aid in fat loss, but maybe unhealthy.

    Dosage:
For adults, no more than 25mg should be taken at one time, never to exceed 100mg a day. However it would probably best to avoid this supplement altogether as it can be dangerous. DEFINITELY contact your doctor before starting any regular ephedra use to make sure he/she approves

    Side effects from ephedra:
Ephedra can have many side effects on the human body. Although it is possible for people to take ephedra or ephedra/caffeine under close supervision from a doctor, it is not advised. However, in people with heart disease, and even, occasionally, in those with no known heart conditions, ephedrine can cause serious disturbances of heart rhythm, and possibly sudden death; strokes have also occurred from ephedra
The following people should not even consider taking ephedra due to extremely high risk
    Cardiovascular disease, including:

  • Angina
  • Abnormalities of heart rhythm
  • Hardening of the arteries
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Intermittent claudication
  • Impaired circulation to the brain
  • Enlargement of the prostate
  • Diabetes
