  • Precedex Information

    Prescription Name: Precedex

*NOTE* Precedex is a medication that should only be taken when prescribed by a doctor. Please note I don't recommend taking Precedex without a prior prescription from your doctor and cannot be held responsible for any problems that occur from taking Precedex. This information is provided for information purposes and is not intended as a substitues to professional advice *NOTE*

Active Ingrediant in Precedex: Dexmedetomidine Hydrochloride

    Uses for taking Precedex
Precedex is an intravenous (IV) sedative used only in intensive care unit patients who need manually or mechanically operated medical equipment to keep air flowing into and out of their lungs. Precedex should not be given constantly for more than 24 hours.

    Possible Precedex Side Effects:

Precedex should be used with caution in patients who:

    • are pregnant or are breast-feeding
    • have a history of heart-related health problems (e.g., advanced heart block)
    • have a history of liver disease

Precedex should only be given by health care providers who are skilled in managing patients in an intensive care setting. Because of the action of Precedex, patients on Precedex should be continuously monitored. Significant decreases in blood pressure and slow heartbeat can occur.

Precedex is given intravenously (IV) over 24 hours or less using a device that controls the amount of drug that is given.

Things to be cautious of while taking Precedex:
You must not take Precedex if you have congestive heart failure of any severity. Talk with your health care provider about whether you have this condition.

You must not take Precedex if you have congestive heart failure.

It is not known if Precedex increases the risk of death in people without congestive heart failure. Initial studies were too small to be sure that there may not be some increased risk of death, or increased risk with long term use, or in patients with more severe conditions than people who took the drug in the testing of the product.

Positive effects from Precedex may not be seen right away. Improvements can be seen from 2-4 weeks, or up to 12 weeks after starting Precedex.

If you have not noticed any benefit from taking Precedex after 12 weeks, talk to your health care provider.

While taking Precedex, avoid drinking grapefruit juice.

Because certain other medications can interact with Precedex, review all medications that you are taking with your health care provider, including those that you take without a prescription.

Tell your health care provider if you are trying to become pregnant, are already pregnant, or are breast-feeding.

As with most medications, do not drive until you are certain to how you react to the drug.

Drinking alcohol while taking Precedex is definitely not recommended.
